Child Safety Policy

Compiled from the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, Version 10. Effective Date: 2026-10-01

Our core commitment

ReviSports is an AI-powered athletic performance and social platform serving youth, high school, and collegiate athletes, their parents and guardians, coaches, teams, and sports fans. Because a significant portion of our users are minors under the age of 18, we have designed our platform and legal terms with the protection of children's privacy as a foundational principle, not an afterthought.

1. How Children and Teens Join a Team

Source: Terms of Service §2.1, §3.1-3.3; Privacy Policy §5.1-5.2

Children under 13 cannot have an account. Teens 13 to 17 can create their own. The primary path onto a team is a coach invitation: a coach creates a team, enters the roster with parent email addresses, and the Platform sends an invitation to each parent. The guardian creates their own account, accepts the invitation, and sets their child's privacy settings.

A child is usually added through a coach invitation:

  1. A coach creates a team on the Platform and enters the roster, including parent email addresses.
  2. The Platform sends an invitation to each parent.
  3. The parent creates their own account (providing name, email, date of birth, state of residence, and password).
  4. The guardian accepts the invitation and sets their child's privacy settings.
  5. The child's profile starts with the default settings in Section 4.
Parent/Guardian-Only Mode (Children Under 13)

For children under 13 this is the only way to take part: there is no child account at all. The parent/guardian's own account serves as the child's connection to the team. All team communications (announcements, schedule changes, game details) are delivered directly to the parent/guardian. The parent/guardian can view the child's highlights, stats, and team content from their own dashboard and post from their own account, under their own name. The child has no login and no account.

A child under 13 cannot be given their own login, and no consent setting changes that. From 13, a child can have an account under the process in Section 2.

2. Consent Requirements by Age Tier

Source: Terms of Service §3.2; Privacy Policy §5.2

Children (under 13)

For children under 13 no account is created, so there is no child login to consent to. A guardian adds the child, or accepts a coach's invitation for them, and chooses their privacy settings. No government-issued identification is collected.

You can read what applies to a child under 13 at /parental-consent.

Teens (13-17)

The teen accepts the ReviSports Terms of Service themselves at signup and confirms participation via an email link. Federal COPPA law does not require parental consent for this age tier.

Where applicable state law requires parental consent at the teen's age in their state of residence, the teen cannot finish signing up on their own, and their coach is asked to invite a guardian instead. The current list of states with such laws is published at /legal/state-consent-rules.

4. The 7 Consent Controls

Source: Terms of Service §3.4-3.5; Privacy Policy §5.3

A set of independent consent controls governs your child's Platform experience. Who controls them depends on the account type. On club and consumer (personal) accounts, you and your child (from age 13) share ONE set of controls: either of you may change any setting at any time, you from the parent/guardian dashboard and your child from their own settings page, the most recent change wins, and each of you is notified when the other changes something. On school accounts, you are authoritative and your child cannot override your choice. Enabling one control never enables any other, and changes take effect immediately.

What the settings start as. A new account's starting settings depend on account type, age, and state of residence, and they are applied once, when the account is created; a later change to these starting rules never reaches back and changes an existing account. For children under 13, only the name on the team roster starts ON (their own team sees it); everything else starts OFF. For teens 13-17 on a club or consumer account, the name-on-roster and name-with-stats controls (Team scope), private group chats, and commenting on other teams' shared content start ON; content sharing outside the team, every External-scope control, and direct messages still start OFF. For teens 13-17 on a school account, only the name-on-roster and name-with-stats controls (Team scope) start ON. In states whose law requires a known minor's settings to default to the most private available (currently Texas, Utah, Maryland, and California), every control for a 13-17 account except the name on the team roster starts OFF; if we cannot determine the state, we treat it the same way.

Roster Visibility (Team)
Controls whether the child's real name appears on the team roster their teammates see. When OFF, the child appears as a jersey number and position only (e.g., "#12 QB"). There is no External scope: no public roster page exists. Works even without a child account.
Stats Visibility (Team / External)
Controls whether the child's name appears alongside their performance statistics. Team: name shown on team stats pages. External: stats visible on the child's public profile and in search results. When OFF, stats display jersey number and position only.
Content Sharing (External)
Controls whether the child's posts, highlights, and photos can be shared outside the team and appear on their public-facing profile. Posting within the team is part of team membership and is not consent-gated. For children under 13, only the parent/guardian can share content beyond the team.
Real Name (External only)
Controls whether the child's real identity is visible outside the team. The child's real name is always visible within their own team. When OFF, the child appears under a display username externally. It starts OFF at every age, including on a parent-managed profile for a child under 13, and for a child under 13 only the parent/guardian can turn it on. At 18 the athlete is prompted, once, to choose whether to show their real name; nothing changes until they answer.
Comments (External)
Controls whether the child can comment on other teams' shared content (appearing under the display username unless the Real Name control is on). Commenting on the child's own team's posts is part of team membership and is not consent-gated. A child under 13 has no account and cannot comment anywhere.
Private Group Chats
Controls whether the child can send messages in private group chats (groups created outside any team's channels). Team chats and team announcements are part of team membership and are always available. When OFF, the child can still read a private group they are in but cannot send. Applies from age 13; a child under 13 has no account and is not in any chat.
Direct Messages (one setting, four values)
One setting with four values: Off (no direct messages at all), Team Only (direct messages with team members), Approved Contacts (external requests route to the parent/guardian for per-contact approval; the child never sees unapproved requests), and Open (direct messages from anyone, with parent/guardian dashboard visibility retained). A child under 13 has no account and cannot receive direct messages, and no setting changes that.

Scouting reports never show a child's name to another team's coaches: they show jersey number and position only, and no setting changes that.

4a. One Child, One Set of Settings

Source: Terms of Service §3.5; Privacy Policy §5.3

A child's consent settings are a single record that follows the child, not any team. If a child plays on several teams, the same settings apply on every one of them, and a change made once applies everywhere immediately. There is no way to set them differently for different teams.

Coaches always see full player names regardless of consent settings, as this is necessary for team administration. We do not collect, use, or disclose information from a minor beyond the scope of the consent controls described above.

5. Your Child's Identity and the Display Username System

Source: Terms of Service §4; Privacy Policy §5.4-5.5

Every minor account is assigned a display username used in all external-facing contexts (interactions outside the child's own team). The display username is chosen by the parent (for under 13) or the child with parental review (for ages 13-17). The username must not contain the child's real name, school name, birth year, or other personally identifying information. The Platform validates usernames against these rules.

The display username ensures that a minor's real identity is never disclosed outside their team boundary unless the Real Name control (Section 4) is on. Comments, reactions, shared content, and DM conversations with external contacts all display the username, not the real name, by default.

A minor's real name appears only where the Real Name control allows it:

  • Within the child's own team: real name is always visible to teammates, coaches, and team parents.
  • Outside the team: real name appears only if the Real Name control is on, and it starts off at every age. Otherwise, the display username is shown.
18th Birthday Transition

While a user is a minor, content posted under a display username retains that attribution permanently. If the Real Name control is switched on later, content posted before that date remains attributed to the display username. Only new content going forward displays the real name.

When a user turns 18 they become a legal adult. The Platform asks them, once, whether to show their real name outside their teams or keep the display username. Nothing changes until they answer, and the Real Name control remains theirs to change at any time afterward. Historical content keeps the attribution it was posted with.

We intend to offer fuller controls over historical minor-years content, letting the now-adult user reveal it under their real name, disconnect it from their profile, or delete it entirely. Until those controls ship, historical content simply remains as posted.

6. What Data We Collect from Minor Users

Source: Privacy Policy §2.4, §2.5, §3.3

Children Under 13
  • Profile information: name (visible only within the child's own team), date of birth, display username (chosen by the parent, used in all external-facing contexts).
  • Athletic profile data: jersey number, position, height, weight, team history.
  • Content about the child that a guardian or coach adds: photos, highlights, game film, and statistics.

We do NOT collect the following about children under 13: precise geolocation data, biometric data, financial information, social media account information, or any personal information beyond what is reasonably necessary to provide the Platform's athletic profile and team communication features.

Ages 13-17
  • All information listed for under 13.
  • Display username (chosen by the user, subject to parental review).
  • Direct messages (only when the account's Direct Messages setting is not Off; see Section 4).
  • Interaction data related to content shared outside the team (only when the Content Sharing control is on for the account; see Section 4).

We do not sell the personal information of users aged 13 to 17. Personalized advertising for this age band is governed by Section 4 of the Privacy Policy: on by default in most states, off until that user opts in in California at 13 to 15 and in Colorado, New York and Texas, and off entirely in Connecticut and Maryland. A parent or guardian can switch it off for their child at any time.

Restrictions on Use of Minor Data (All Age Tiers)
  • For children under 13 we never use their information for targeted or personalized advertising, and no setting can change that. For users aged 13 to 17 it is used only where the Privacy Policy Section 4 permits personalized advertising and only while that setting is on.
  • We do NOT sell, rent, or trade any user's personal information to third parties, at any age. For children under 13 we do not transfer their personal information to a third party for advertising at all, and that is absolute regardless of parental consent. For users aged 13 to 17, where personalized advertising is permitted, the only thing passed to our advertising partner is a pseudonymous advertising identifier, never their name, date of birth, school, team, statistics, messages, or uploads.
  • For children under 13, we do NOT use their information to build behavioral profiles, infer preferences, or create audience segments, and no setting can change that. For users aged 13 to 17, personalized advertising uses interaction signals to select ads wherever the Privacy Policy Section 4 permits it; those signals are never sold, and the user or their parent can switch it off at any time in Settings.
  • We do NOT use minor users' information for algorithmic content ranking or recommendation. Content feeds for minor accounts are chronological.
  • We do NOT create anonymized or aggregated data sets from the data of anyone under 18 for sale or sharing with third parties. Those data sets are drawn from adult activity only.
  • We do NOT disclose any minor user's date of birth to any party outside ReviSports under any circumstances. Date of birth is an internal field used solely for age verification.

7. Direct Messaging Safety

Source: Terms of Service §6.1-6.5

Messaging by Age Tier
  • Under 13: no messaging of any kind. The child has no account, so they are not in team chat, group chats, or direct messages, and no parental setting changes that. All team communication is delivered to the parent/guardian's account.
  • Ages 13-17: Direct messages are governed by the single Direct Messages setting (Section 4), which holds one of four values: Off (the starting value: no direct messages at all; team chat and team announcements remain available), Team Only (teammates, coaches, and team parents/guardians only), Approved Contacts (external requests route to the parent/guardian for per-contact approval; the child never sees unapproved requests), or Open (the child can receive direct messages from anyone; the parent/guardian retains full dashboard visibility). On a club or consumer account the parent/guardian or the teen themselves may move the setting; on a school account only the parent/guardian may.
  • Ages 18+: Full messaging capability with no restrictions.
DM Request Denial Flow (Approved Contacts)

When a parent/guardian denies a DM request under the Approved Contacts setting, the following process applies:

  • The requester receives a neutral redirect message: “This athlete's account settings don't currently allow messages from new contacts. To reach this athlete's family, you can contact their parent/guardian directly or reach out through their team's coaching staff.” The message does not reveal that the parent/guardian specifically reviewed and denied the request.
  • First denial: the requester may submit a new request after 30 days.
  • Second denial (same requester): the requester may submit a new request after 90 days.
  • Third denial (same requester): the requester is permanently blocked from contacting that athlete. The parent/guardian may unblock at any time through their dashboard.
Chat Visibility

Who can read a message depends on the kind of chat. Team Chat is a team-wide channel: everyone on the team and the staff of the organization that owns it are enrolled, so anything posted there is visible to all of them. Group chats and custom groups are visible to the people in the group; in a club or consumer organization, an organization administrator who is not in the group cannot read it. One-on-one direct messages are visible to the two people in the conversation, and a parent or guardian can review the direct messages their own child has sent. Where a school or district provides ReviSports to its students, that school's designated officials may additionally read group, custom, and direct messages in their school's scope; that access is read only and every content view is recorded in an audit log. See Terms of Service § 6.3.

Content Monitoring

Every message sent on the Platform is screened automatically by artificial intelligence at the moment it is delivered, in Team Chat, group chats, custom groups, and direct messages alike, for cyberbullying and harassment, predatory or grooming behavior, sexual content, threats of violence, self-harm, and hate. The screening is performed by software; no person reads conversations as a matter of course. When a concern is confirmed, or someone in the conversation reports a message, the alert goes to the parents or guardians of the minor involved (or, in a school organization, to the school's designated officials), and never to the person who wrote the message. By using the messaging features, you consent to this screening, and the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy describe it. Terms of Service § 6.4 and § 6.5, and Privacy Policy § 6.8, describe the process and the alert recipients in full.

8. Content Moderation and Safety

Source: Terms of Service §7; Privacy Policy §5.6

ReviSports is committed to maintaining a safe platform for all users, especially minors. All content on the Platform is subject to moderation. Content involving minor accounts receives enhanced protections:

  • If we become aware of apparent child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on the Platform, we report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) as required by federal law (18 U.S.C. 2258A).
  • Comments are subject to an automated profanity filter, and every message sent on the Platform is additionally screened by AI for bullying, harassment, and predatory behavior as described in Section 7.
  • Any user can report content or another user using the reporting feature available on all content and profile pages. Reports involving minors are prioritized and escalated for expedited review.
  • ReviSports will investigate all reports and may take action including content removal, account warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent termination.
  • ReviSports reports all apparent child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to NCMEC as required by federal law. Beyond what the law compels, where we believe in good faith that someone is at risk of serious harm we may contact law enforcement, child protective services, a school, or another appropriate authority ourselves, without needing permission from a parent, guardian, or organization, and without telling them first where doing so could put someone at greater risk.
  • ReviSports uses AI models, provided by a third-party AI service under contract, to monitor communications for cyberbullying, predatory behavior, sexual content, suicidal ideation, and threats of violence. The conversation excerpt sent for classification is de-identified first: speakers appear as anonymous labels and no names, account identifiers, or timestamps are sent. Parents and guardians receive alerts about confirmed concerns through the parent/guardian dashboard.

9. Cookies and Tracking for Minor Accounts

Source: Privacy Policy §8.2

Regardless of geographic location, the following rules apply to minor accounts:

  • Children Under 13: No behavioral tracking cookies are set under any circumstances. This is a hard system rule, not a consent choice. Analytics operates in cookieless (anonymous, aggregated) mode permanently. Advertising cookies are never loaded. This rule cannot be overridden by any consent mechanism.
  • Ages 13-17: Advertising and analytics cookies are active by default except where prohibited by law. In California, users under 16 require explicit opt-in consent for advertising cookies per the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA); the Parent/Guardian dashboard consent serves as this opt-in mechanism. Parents/Guardians may opt out of advertising and analytics cookies for their child at any time through the Parent/Guardian dashboard.
  • Ages 18+: Standard geo-targeted consent as described in the full Privacy Policy §8.1.

We implement Google Consent Mode V2 to ensure that our analytics and advertising tools respect user consent choices and minor account restrictions.

10. Advertising and Minor Users

Source: Terms of Service §9; Privacy Policy §4.3

We do not serve personalized or targeted advertising to children under 13 under any circumstances. This is a hard system rule: it applies regardless of any consent or account setting and cannot be overridden. All advertising shown on pages about a child under 13 is contextual only, based on the content being viewed (sport, position, content type), never based on the individual child's behavior, profile, or personal data, and the child-directed treatment signal is sent with each such advertising request.

For users 13-17, personalized advertising operates as described in the Privacy Policy (Section 4.2) and the Terms of Service: ACTIVE BY DEFAULT in most states with no opt-in required, and switchable off at any time by the user or their parent. Two exceptions are applied automatically by state of residence: in California at ages 13 to 15, and in Colorado, New York and Texas, it stays off until that user opts in themselves; in Connecticut and Maryland it is off entirely and cannot be switched on. Where applicable law grants an opt-out right, it is exercised through the Platform's advertising and cookie preferences.

The following categories of advertising are prohibited on pages associated with minor accounts regardless of age band: gambling, alcohol, tobacco, vaping, weight loss products, dietary supplements, financial products, political campaigns, dating services, and any content rated as inappropriate for minors.

We do not collect, use, disclose, or maintain personal information from children under 13 for purposes of individual-specific advertising, consistent with the requirements of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

11. Marketing Use of Your Child's Likeness

Source: Terms of Service §8.4

ReviSports will not use identifiable images or video of a specific minor in marketing, promotional, or advertising materials without separate, explicit consent from the minor's parent/guardian. This consent is requested separately from the general content license and may be granted or withheld independently.

General game film or content in which no individual minor is specifically identifiable (e.g., wide-angle field shots, crowd scenes, team group photos) may be used in marketing materials without individual consent.

Content flagged as created by a minor account is never used in marketing materials without explicit parental/guardian consent.

12. How Long We Keep Your Child's Data

Source: Privacy Policy §9

We retain personal information using a tiered retention framework:

Tier 1: Live Platform (removed within 48 hours)
When you delete content or your account, it is removed from the live Platform within 48 hours. No user can see it after removal.
Tier 2: Permanent Deletion (no routine archive)
ReviSports does not keep a routine archival copy of deleted content. Once it is removed from the live Platform it is permanently deleted, except where a legal hold, a lawful request, or a child safety or law enforcement obligation requires preserving specific content, and only for as long as that obligation lasts. Preserved content is never used for any Platform feature, marketing, or model training.
Tier 3: Consent and Verification Records (minimum 7 years)
Every consent record and audit log entry is retained for a minimum of 7 years for COPPA compliance.
Tier 4: Financial Records (7 years)
Payment records, subscription history, and invoices are retained as required by tax law.
Tier 5: Litigation Hold (indefinite)
If there is any pending or reasonably anticipated legal action involving an account or content, all relevant data is preserved until the legal matter is resolved.
Tier 6: Modeling Technologies (permanent)
Machine learning, artificial intelligence, and other computational models trained using content prior to a deletion request are not affected by the deletion. It is not technically feasible to remove specific data contributions from a trained model. The underlying content is deleted per Tiers 1-2, but the model itself persists.

13. Your Rights as a Parent or Guardian

Source: Privacy Policy §5.7

Parents of minor users have the following rights at all times:

  • Review all personal information collected from their child by contacting us at the address below.
  • Review all content posted by their child through the parent dashboard.
  • Review all messages sent to and from their child's account (when DMs are enabled) through the parent dashboard.
  • Modify or revoke any parental control setting (Sharing, Real Name, DMs) at any time.
  • Request deletion of their child's account or profile and all associated personal information at any time. Deletion requests are fulfilled within 48 hours.
  • Refuse to permit further collection, use, or maintenance of their child's personal information, which will result in the deletion of the child's account or profile.
